Teens Horror Writing Prompts

Take a famous romantic quote, or lyric, and use it as the opening line to a horror story.

The line must be related to the story.

You’re walking down the sidewalk when you notice everyone around you has a collection of zippers holding their skin together...

“We live in a land where the footprints of ghosts linger.”

Use this line to start or end a poem. It can be any genre as long as you feel it fits the sentence well.

Drawing from typical tropes of supernatural or ghost stories, create a short story set in an old manor house.

A group of hikers see a series of flickering lights on the horizon. They follow them and discover something startling when they reach the source.

Write a scene where your main character has no control over their facial expressions or laughter. Instead, someone else controls them.

Your character burried something out in the woods. Today they have to tell someone...

Door shut tightly, might the monsters come.

Write a poem which ends with this line. You may wish to interpret the 'monsters’ metaphorically rather than literally.

Describe a character that has no face.

Try to think outside the box about who this character is, and what having no face means for the way you describe them.

‘Finding a way into tricky situations has never been a problem for me – although I still haven’t learned the art of getting out of them.’

Write a short story that opens with this line. Why does this character make this remark?

Write a thriller or horror story based on this image.

Write a story that is very dark or gloomy but takes place in an otherwise happy setting.

The setting can be anywhere from a colorful kitchen to a field of daisies in the middle of the day, but have the events be dark or mysterious.
