Capricorn’s Sacrifice

The three quickly made space in front of Bucephalus' ruined house, running down the center and scattering the soldiers to both sides. When they turned to approach the next column, they were caught in the chest with Aries' giant ram form. They hung onto the ram's head and grounded their feet.

"You should have joined us!" Aries screamed from within the ram. "You've left us no choice!"

Juan's voice rang out from within the juggernaut. "You asked what I wanted. What I want now is to crush you all!" The juggernaut lifted the struggling ram by the horns and used it to smash a catapult. With a flying leap, the three crushed the ram against the ground with their fists.

Standing over the crushed Aries, the three watched Sagittarius transform into a giant centaur archer, and Leo transform into a fiery green titanic lion. They ran across the field, destroying battle formations. Taurus speared Leo in the side, and the lion dug his claws into the bull.

Capricorn spoke into the triune mind of the three: "Get me into the cauldron of rebirth. We can win this. None of you seemed to know this in your ridiculous debate about resurrecting Cancer, but if you bring back a wizard against their will, the wizard performing the resurrection dies and the cauldron is profaned and can never be used again. That's what I wanted to happen, but this is even better, because everything burns."

"You want to die?" Libra asked.

"I've been craving death for generations. I never had the courage before. This is my heart's desire."

"What about Cancer's wishes?" Juan asked.

"You can promise him it's the last time," said Capricorn. "We have no time for ethics now. I'll crush the cauldron and send you Cancer back, who can enlist his sons when you get to Cuahalan. Send Scorpio down to Tartarus and release Abaddon once Cancer has released him. Then she can lead Abaddon back through the portal to destroy Anwyn, possess and scatter the soldiers. Force Abaddon into Aquarius, drag Aquarius down to Tartarus, and kill him and trap Abaddon back in Tartarus. It couldn't be simpler."

"You're insane," said Juan. "Let's do it, this is the best plan I've heard."

Libra broadcast thought messages to every living being within the castle and environs to evacuate as far as possible. The juggernaut of the three ran with incredible force and speed through the lines of soldiers, Capricorn trailing behind in an armored bubble of orange energy. Before they reached the door of the cauldron, they were confronted by a glowing purple dragon. Even before the dragon spoke, Juan knew it was Pisces.

"I don't want to fight you," Pisces said in her dragon form. "But I will end you before you touch this sacred space."

"Get out of the way," the three said, "your betrayal hurts worse than Aquarius."

"Malachus is my husband. My daughter is in Aeonis with him. I need that city to stand," said Pisces.

"We don't have time for this!" Capricorn cried out.

Without a word, the three grabbed the dragon and began pulling her away from the castle door. She began breathing fire, scorching the grass and trees around the castle black.

"You don't know anything about fire," Juan growled, and the three ignited a burst of hellfire that incinerated Pisces' dragon form. She screamed as the three grabbed her and tossed her away from the door.

The juggernaut kneeled and used Juan's access to the cauldron to open the door. Capricorn turned to them before he descended the stairs. "I want you to know, I hate everyone in the guild, but I hate you three least. Smash Aquarius' face for me." He smiled and ran into the cauldron. "Wait here till Cancer is resurrected!" Capricorn broadcast into their minds, the last words he ever spoke to them.

The three walked over to the blackened figure of Pisces, reverted to human and unconscious on the grass. "What will we do?" Juan asked Bucephalus and Libra.

"Put her in hibernation and stick her in your pocket dimension to heal. We can deal with her once the battle is over," suggested Libra.

"And if we die and she's stuck forever?" Bucephalus asked.

Juan shrugged. "It's a risk we have to take - we can't leave her out here."
