A Crime Of Confession
Jacob's eyes are so beautiful. Autumn leaves, beachy sand, trunks of trees - his eyes are a place of wonder and mystery.
"I love you," I don't understand the words escaping my lips. "I love you, Jacob."
"What?" His eyebrows raise as those mesmerizing eyes light up, whether with shock or excitement I can't decipher.
"I mean it." I wonder, for a moment, if I _do_ mean it.
Those eyebrows lower as a smile overtakes his face. "I love you, Ember."
_He said my name. He said my name. He said my name. _
_ _I'm not sure why it matters as much as it does, but when he says my name, I know he's talking to _me_. When he says my name, I know he's not looking at me and imagining someone else.
He leans in and I wonder if he's going to kiss me. I want him to kiss me. I want to kiss him.
"I need to tell you something," Jacob whispers in my ear as goosebumps run down my spine. I can feel his warm breath on my face.
"What?" I don't care what he has to say, and I wish he'd stop talking. All I can think about is kissing his lips.
"I burned the flag."
"What?" His words don't register in my head.
"I burned the flag we found in the woods, and the Flame Defender's saw me. They would have arrested me, but I outran them and they didn't shoot."
_They didn't shoot? They always shoot. _
"I'm sure it will be fine," The only reason I lie is because I still want to kiss him.
I lean in and hold his face in my hands. Those gentle brown eyes meet mine and it feels as if our souls are embracing.
Without a word, I tilt my head and bring my lips closer to his. I've never kissed someone before. I don't know what to do, so I press my lips against his.
In response to my kiss, Jacob's hands find their way to my waist where they pull me towards him.
Our lips never break apart. I don't even think about breathing, all I can think about is him. _His eyes. His lips. His breath. His scent. _
Everything is about him and I love him.
