No Going Back
Rose was, for once, content. As she walked with her boyfriend Jack under the maple trees, autumn leaves crunching under her feet, everything was beautiful.
“Hey, I’ve been meaning to talk to you,” Jack murmured, stopping and taking her hand.
“Yeah?” Rose asked, still blissfully unaware.
“This-this man stopped me after work yesterday, asking if I knew someone named Rose. I said get lost b-but I need to know. Are you okay? Do you know who that would be?”
Rose’s heart stopped. “I-I… do know who that might’ve been. Was he tall and brunette? Suit?”
“Umm… actually yeah,” Jack said.
Rose was tired, so very tired of hiding. And if Ronan already found Jack, then she had to tell him the truth.
“I’m actually Flora. You know the superhero? I realized I could manipulate plants when I was around 13 and I thought I was going insane so I hid my powers. But they just kept growing and growing until my parents saw and sent me to boarding school after a huge fight where I trashed our apartment and then Ronan found some and I’ve been trying and trying and trying to keep you out of it because superheroes and love don’t work,” Rose blurted, her whole story rushing out.
“Oh,” Jack said. Then Rose’s boyfriend fainted.
