My life sucks, I hate it. I have a low paying job and ridiculous work hours. When I get time off and try to relax my family always wants to spend time with me,This basically means that I spend half my day off driving and the other half listening to my mother nag. She’ll say things like, “When are you going to get married, I want grandchildren!” She frustrates me, but so does dad. Last week he asked me, “So do you have a boyfriend yet?” I looked at him, “nope,”. “You realize your mother and I aren’t gonna be alive another 40 years and we want to be at yours and your children’s weddings?” This is when I get red flustered because I know that what he says is true, but can’t reassure him that I’m going to give them that, “Yeah..” “Right..” then he let out a disappointed sigh.
At first these efforts to shove me into making a family was just an annoyance to me, but now I’m really starting to see what their saying. I know I still have a lot of my life left, but I don’t want most of it to be lonely. I’ve never been much of a catch, I’m not to good looking, no spectacular personality; I’m just average.
Another Monday rolls around, and I’m back at my ‘lovely’ job, feeling particularly lonely. I’ve never really payed much attention to the lobby of my work, but there is a fountain in the middle. A childish idea came into my head that I was quick to shove right back out; what adult in their right mind would throw a coin into a fountain?! I spent the rest of my day working, but I just couldn’t get that stupid fountain out of my head, so on my way out I found a penny I had and chucked it in, asking for a guy.
Like usual I got onto my bus and started the ride home, and, like usual, I fell asleep. When I woke up every person on the bus had gathered around me. “Ummm” was all I could utter out. The girl directly next to me grinned, “you are so beautiful, could I have your number?” I stared at her in shock, “Well I’m straight so that’ll be a no from me.” All the girls in the crowed glared at all the men. One man sang, “The moment I saw you I knew you were the one, marry me.” And with that every man in the crowed started yelling and fighting, “No me!” “She’s mine!” People all around me were tearing each other’s hair out and throwing one another on the floor. The moment the bus stopped I ran, but before I knew it more and more people were crowding me and begging to be my lover! All I could do was yell, “WHAT IN THE WORLD IS HAPPENING?!”
It took a moment or two to remember where I was. It felt like I was in the middle of a dark dream. I felt scared. Why were they all staring at me? The train had stopped just outside Waterloo Station. Another train stopped beside us and I saw the passengers from that train all staring and pointing in my direction. I felt heat rising from my feet up to the top of my head. My heart beating so lousy I imagine it could be heard around the carriage. I felt my ran my hand over my face. Perhaps a big spider had landed in my forehead. I took the small vanity mirror from my bag and opened it.
Then I realised what the stares were about. My face had turned green. It must have happened while I slept. But how and why?
