POEM STARTER
Write a poem about someone dancing, that portrays the movements and atmosphere of their dance.
It doesn't necessarily have to be fluid and elegant dance; they could be portraying something else with their movements. You could focus on any aspect that is rich in description and can be reflected in your writing style.
Bliss
Slow...
Tired...
A step in one direction, a bow, a dip
Every movement perfectly paced
Water elegantly keeping a ship afloat
Until the storm hits
A drum gains a steady heart beat
As the thunder starts to crash
The waves lift, and twirl, and slam
Causing a rise of tension
Spinning out of control
With a captain who’s seen it all
As they navigate the waters
Feet slamming against the deck
Energy booming throughout their body
Their movements quicken in pace
Water turns to fire
And fire turns to waste
The beat dies down as wind floats in
Arms swaying along with it
Slowly pushing them to their knees
A head crouched down touching the stage
Perfectly still Silence
And then applause.
