But My Dog!

You didn’t know why you were there, you were about to feed your pet dog, until suddenly, you woke up here. In a strange place, at first you thought it was a dream, one that you can control so you began exploring.

The place was pretty, it looked better than the real world, skeletons were kind towards one another. And they all wore pretty clothings.

You giggle when you saw a mime run by, they looked silly. Whenever you’d giggle, you always put your hand over your mouth, this time was no different.

Through your giggles and laughs, you noticed your hand, it was a skeleton as well, you thought it was cool, so you began inspecting it, taking in all the little details, moving your fingers, clenching your fists, rotating your hand. You were amazed by it all.

You continue walking through the city, greeting everyone with a smile, for once in your life, you felt optimistic, happy, comfortable and relaxed. The pain in your back, legs, arm, chest and neck was gone.

You start running around, giggling like a child. You hop on the stone brick ground, skipping two bricks. You felt like a child again, in a world that’s different from the world that you know, it was easing in a way, calming. It was hard to explain, this feeling, you felt peaceful, you felt as if you’d prefer to stay here than to be back in the real world. In here no one was sad, no one looked homeless, or miserable. Everyone looked happy, giddy, and kind.

You spin around slowly, examining details about the place, pretty lights and clean environment, this was nice. As you spun you saw a bakery, you chuckle, everyone was a skeleton. Where would all the bread go?

You enter the shop, seeing people conversing with one another and others were picking their bread.

You approach the baker. “Good day madam, may I have one of these bread please?” You point at a bread that you remember loving in your childhood. “Of course.” The baker replies. “How much would it cost?” You ask. “Cost? Oh no, these are free.” They give you the bread with a charming smile.

You walk out of the shop and began eating the bread, you lift your shirt up to see where the bread would go, they turn into dust. ‘Cool.’ You thought.

Walking through the town, you saw a skeleton dog and you were reminded of something. You had to feed your dog. The thought of pinching yourself to wake up ran across your mind but you had no flesh to pinch. ‘How does one wake up from something like this?’. You slapped yourself, hoping it would wake you, your head detached from your body and your body fumbled over searching for the head. You reattach it back and you start to panic.

You had no idea how to wake up from this but you have to, your dog would starve if not. You spun around but this time every little sound was getting loud, it started feeling cramped, you had no control over it.

Running away from the town, you head for a cliff thinking that maybe you’d wake up. You jump off and you start falling but you still weren’t waking up, there was water below the cliff and you felt relieved.

Splash!

You land on the water. That water must’ve been a portal or something because you were upside down, you fix your position to stand upright. This town looked depressing, if you thought London was depressing then you should see this. It wad a ghost town, no bright lights, no giddy people greeting each other, nothing but a cold and damp surrounding.

You walk further in the town, shivering at the cold, you hug yourself to provide heat. A skeleton ringing a bell was in the middle, you approach them. “You seem lost.” They say. “I am.” You reply. “Need help getting back to the city?” They ask. “Yes.” You reply. “Can’t, once your here, no going back.” They say. “What is this place?” You ask. “It’s where the dead go, upstairs are for those who are remembered, down here’s for those who don’t. You thought ‘twas a dream didn’t you?” They say. “No, I have to get back to my dog!” You say. “Your dog’ll be fine, don’t worry.” They say before disappearing.

You cry, hoping you’d wake up now.

But you don’t.

You’re stuck.

You’re dead.
