Untrue Loves Kiss

When Princess Theodora met Prince Felix the Fifth, she initially dismissed him as an uncourteous fool with a stubbornly handsome face. But as she got to know him better during their short engagement—she realized he was not only an uncouth lying bastard, but he was prone to falling for traps as well. That’s how they ended up here, with her kneeling over him after kissing an enchanted hag.

“Wake up, you fool!” She cried, attempting to shake him awake. The sheer anger in her eyes ought to have woken him up, but the prince did not stir.

She was gone for a mere day, just one! And what she came home to was not only an affair (she frankly didn’t care) but a cursed prince to take care of.

“What do I do with him now!” She exasperated. The only thing she could think of was a true loves kiss; as foolish as it was.

The princess bent down, shutting her eyes tightly as she pressed her lips to the sleeping prince. She felt absolutely nothing, and the prince was still frozen in time.

She sighed defeated and sank into the ground besides him when that didn’t work. What if they blamed her for the curse? Theodora’s head was certainly the type you would imagine on a pike. Her gaze shifted towards the prince, and something gleaming in the pocket of his doublet caught her eye.

A small hand mirror he was so fond of. Sometimes, Theodora wondered if the only person he would ever love was himself.

An idea sparked.

With a sly smile, the princess climbed over the prince, reaching for the mirror. Then, she pressed the cold glass against his lips.

She kept it their for three seconds, and then removed it when he began stirring.

His eyes slowly opened and he looked up at Theodora. “Theodora?” He mumbled, before throwing her off him. “What are you doing!”

“Saving you!” she shouted. She saved him—or he saved himself in a twisted way, and everything made Theodora realize what she ought to have done all along.

“I’m calling off the engagement!”
