The Memory Breeze
The lady on the bed was still
Her breathing very faint
Her long white hair, an anxious shroud
A tear rolled down her face
Her days were nearly over
And hope had cruelly gone
She wished someone would visit
Not leave her all alone
Then through the open window
She felt a gentle breeze
It swirled and curled around her
And caressed her faded cheeks
It stayed a while, just comforting
As her heart began to slow
Then the breeze grew ever stronger
She knew it was time to go
The breeze embraced her body
Blowing, tumbling through her mind
And there it found the memories
Of all the years gone by
And then she did remember
All the years of love and joy
A baby crying, first day at school
A birthday cake, new toy
A bloodied knee, a tear stained face
Then cuddles on a lap
Sunday dinners, apple pie
The purring of a cat
A wedding day, so full of hope
The sun, the sea, the sky
Family times, such precious days
How quickly time went by
United soul and memories
Binded ribbon tight with love
Were gently carried by the breeze
And drifted far above
Through the open window
Over earth and fire and sea
Soaring on the Memory Breeze
Peaceful, happy, free!
The lady on the bed was still
Her breathing not a trace
Her long white hair, a tranquil shroud
A smile now on her face.
