POEM STARTER
Take the first line from a book and use it to begin a poem.
Try to choose a book at random and challenge yourself to write the poem around it, instead of planning to choose a book based on your poem idea.
Desperation
It’s not the heartbreak that kills you
It’s the desperation
The wanting
Waiting
For him to take you back
When all along it was written in the stars that it was never meant to last
And that’s all you can think about
When you look up at the moon and you see his face carved into it
When everywhere you go you can smell his old cologne
The one he said he wouldn’t wear, but he wore it anyway because it reminded him of you
When all you can taste is the salt pouring from your eyes
When all you hear is his voice coming down from the sky
Like he was an angel
But truly he was the devil in disguise
He liked you better with makeup on, so now you can’t take it off
He said you were getting fat, so now you can’t stop starving yourself
You found someone new, but it will never be the same
Because you’ve learned to live with the pieces of your broken frame
You’re heart is shattered and he left you to pick it back up
But what would it be like to try one more time after all the times he said he was sorry?
When he really wasn’t
You deserve so much better than him
But he’s all you dream about at night
Lingering like the smell of the pumpkin spice
That he used to buy you at that little coffee shop
But now you’ll never learn to open back up
Because he took the key to your heart
And now there’s no such thing as a fresh start
