Write a story about two childhood friends who made a promise, but as young adults, they struggle with whether to keep it.
Brothers
“I promise” I muttered. “I promise to stand by your side til death brother!” I screeched while the blood was slowly pouring out of my chest.
“Those were the words you said to m-“ “Those were the words of a child!” He said to me standing there with a blooded sword, and the eyes of someone I know no more.
With my breath fainting, I forced the word out of my mouth. “Why?” He looked at me with pure hatred, “The Legion has made their deci-“ “I don’t care about the Legion, Why you?” I cut him off with furiousness. How could you, my best friend betray me like this?
“Because I am your only weakness. You are the strongest warrior in the world, yet you will always be clouded by your heart.”
“What did they do to you in the Leg- Agghh!” I can’t speak, It feels as if every word I speak is another sword piercing through my chest. “We were supposed to destroy the legion for what they did to our families” I whispered as my breath was getting tighter and tighter.
He looked at me differently, eyes as pure as the day we became friends. Did mentioning family trigger something in him? What did they do to my friend?
He looked at me with a tear rolling down his face “They have my sister.” He said quickly, his body was shaking before he started frantically running away.
“Don’t do this please stop!!!” He screamed running like a madman grabbing the top of his head “He turned to me after running about 20 yards away “Save her!” Those were his last words before I saw his head burst like a shotgun was shot from the inside of his throat.
The Legion has been inside his head this whole time, a microchip to control emotions. Once he goes against it then it’s all over. I couldn’t cry, all I could do was sit in shock.
Before I could even process what just happened, I knew what my mission was. “Get up” I exhaled. I used all of my force to bring myself back to my feet, next thing I know. Everything went blank.
