Kitty Chaos
Written in a style suitable for 8-12 year old:
Tabby, like all the cats living in WindHollow had a unique ability. Each cat when they are born from the WindHollow Wisdom tree glows with an aura that highlights a category of power. Tabby’s glow was pink; it meant he was especially good at athletics and super power was the ability to jump very high.
When tabby was a kitty he would leap across streams with his friends, jumping over great bounds of twigs and leaves in game of tag!
He helped his mother collect pinecones that were still on small trees but as he grew older, his power became a little out of control.
Sometimes tabby would find himself barely able to jump at all, maybe an inch or two, and he would feel very tired after. Other times Tabby would reach great heights, like the time he got reached up and grabbed the farmers hat in this claws.
Today Tabby was meant to help tidy the messy autumn leafs from the outer garden. He promised to make a good job and knew he would be rewarded with a treat. Tabby hopped his way along the path to the outer garden, with a satisfied plomp, hop, plomp in each leap. When Tabby arrived everyone had already started clearing the garden without him. He was panicked and wanted to help out extra hard , he began by jumping into the corner of the garden, a bag in his teeth, pulling it along and clearing up the leaves. But as they cleaned the wind caused more leaves to fall.
“Oh no!” Cried Tabby “at this rate we’ll never be done!” Then an idea popped into his mind. He took the bag and prepared to jump, his paws glowed pink and with the spring of his legs , up , up , up he went. He felt like it must’ve been the highest he’s ever jumped. The tree branches past him and he was so high, he couldn’t stop himself from grabbing the branch above him in instinct.
When he grabbed the branch he stopped and took a breath. He was very very high up. In that moment a thought occurred to Tabby. I think I might be scared of heights , Tabby looked worried.
Tabby’s friends looked up and gathered at the base of the tree, “are you ok” they asked , concerned.
Tabby thought and was reluctant to ask for help but knew he couldn’t get down alone , so he shook his head and lowered his ears.
“Just hold on!” Another said, the group of cats huddled for a moment before scrambling to collect the pills of leaves, they packed them all into a pile and the elder cat once again called up.
“Try to jump into the leaves !” 🍁
There was now a very big pile of big leaves , Tabby remembered why he jumped up there and collected the leaves at the top of the branches in his bag. When he was done and his feet felt a little wobbly he prepared to jump down. He feet lifted and he sprang down.
Falling into the pile , there was a flurry of leaves and twigs.
“Thank goodness” Tabby’s mum said as she rushed to hug him, “ I’m so glad your ok! “
Tabby sighed a bag full of leaves in his mouth,
“At least it’s only these to clean up” he pawed at the leaves sprayed around him.
“Oh Tabby” said the elder cat, as they all laughed and agreed to work together to clear up the rest, the sun set and the garden looked lovely all thanks to the WindHollow kitties.
