Avery overheard Maya and Hayley talking behind the door.

“I don’t think she’s good enough.” Murmured Hayley sincerely.

“I agree, she would just slow us down,” agreed Maya with more confidence than Hayley.

Avery couldn’t beleive her ears. She had thought these people were her friends. But apparently not. Well, then so be it! If they didn’t need her, then she would just go and defeat Hayley’s brother on her own. That’ll show them!

She quickly and stealthily pack her things into a small bag. But just before she was about to leave, Fern whined.

“Shhhh,” she said to the old and frail dog, “the others will take care of you, don’t worry.”

With one lays pat on Fern’s head, Avery left the camp. Never to be seen again.
