POEM STARTER

Submitted by Maranda Quinn

Write a Somonka from the perspectives of two lovers. A Somonka is made of two Tankas, with the second responding to the first.

A tanka consists of five lines with a syllabic structure of 5-7-5-7-7

Shall I?

Shall I read to you?

Read you a story of love

Of our life, my dear?

I shall hold you tight with care

I shall whisper in your hair

Shall you do such things?

Bind me with your lies and strings

Of my suffering?

Hold my throat so tightly, you?

Tugging the strands out my hair

You made a story out of two stanzas. Short and sweet!

Wonderful!

Thank you! Short and sweet are the things I love.
