The Shooting Star

The stars are bright tonight. That is what I want to say but I do not notice the stars because the brightest star lays next to me.

You have dark black hair like an abyss that I want to get lost in. Dark eyes that go on forever, eyes I want to get lost in. You lay next to me on the grass. We watch the stars above as they pass by. The sky never seems to stop changing.

“Oh look at that one!” She says as she points towards a shooting star. I don’t see it, I never do. I am blinded by her. “You should make a wish” I whisper and she smiles like a child on Christmas “got it! Did you wish?” She says as she giggles. She turns her head, she meets my eyes with a happy smile.

“tell me yours first” I whisper like I’m telling a secret. “I wished for love” she says giggling. “I wished for your love” I whisper. She does not hear me. She never does. She ignores the words that slip past my mouth. Words I did not have a chance to take back before I ruined things.

“I hope I’ll get a husband” she says completely oblivious. A husband…Of course, obviously. I am a girl, we will never be able to be together.

So while you watch the stars and make wishes on the shooting ones. I will watch you and hold my wish deep in my chest hoping one day, the shooting star will me strong enough.
