ANCIENT ANIMALS
And so there it was. Professor Mallory Reed had his young pupils fascinated at last. The boredom of the student body was erased by the words on the page. Ancient literature strikes again.
One student raised their hand. "Professor Reed, what are 'Wings' ... Like these Bird things you are reading about. They have 'Wings' ? What's that!?"
"Excellent question Lydia." The professor acknowledged. "Birds had Wings. Thats what allowed them to fly. Imagine your arms flat and wide, Able to catch the wind. They would flap them up and down like this." The professor acted it out, flopping his arms up and down madly.
The students burst out laughing for a moment, and the professor joined in. "Silly isnt it? But actually it wasnt all that silly. Do you know what these birds did for us? They taught us how to fly. Look at our spacecraft. Comapre it to the bird. We designed our own flight after them. And they were simply born with that gift, to go anywhere ar the flap of a their wings. Truely amazing."
The class awed at the prospect.
"Anyways, Of course The bird's natural Prey is the Cat."
"The what!?" Asked one of the students.
"Cat. Spelled in ancient English C-A-T. It is another ancient animal, that lived alongside the bird. We know they were mortal enemies thanks to various pop culture references."
"What were they like? These, C-Cats?"
"Well there is a lot to be said about Cats. It is beleived that they were worshipped by humans, first in the Egyption Empire, and then later in the mid 20th century. It seems humans would keep small cats as 'Pets' as they called them. Write that word down, it will be on the test. That is P-E-T-S" in ancient english.
"People actually worshipped these animals?"
"Oh yes." The professor reassured. "They would feed them, and build them their own small castles inside of their houses, and make endless videos on them."
"Wow. What was the purpose of a cat?"
"Well they made some sort of Begging 'Meowing' noise, Maybe it was used as audio therapy we suspect. Or perhaps it was their reliability with other small creatures such as birds or mice."
"They were hunters?"
"Oh yes, very much so." The professor agreed. "They must have been fearsome beasts. We wonder just how many humans they managed to kill each year back then... We figure it was well into the hundreds of thousands. yet people still kept these fearsome beasts as pets."
"Maybe they kept them for protection." A student suggested.
"Perhaps. Although all ancient texts point to the DOG as the choice animal protector. If anything, A Cat seemed to work against its owner, some even speculating if it was plotting to kill them."
All of the students were mutting to themselves, thinking of questions to ask. "Okay, just one more question about cats before we move on. There are plenty more ancient animals to cover."
The professor pointed to a boy in the back of the room. "Do you think a cat could defeat a Ninja?"
"Yes." The professor answered abruptly. "A cat could easily defeat a Ninja."
