Water, fire, earth, and air. What would the four elements say if they could speak to each other?

Elemental Music

“We should start a band!” Water roared. She was excited.

Earth rumbled, “I’ll be percussion.”

“I’ll be the horns,” blared Air.

“Naturally,” Earth agreed.

“I guess that makes me lead singer,” Fire mused.

“Well, what do I do then? Backup singer?” Water blubbered.

“Naturally,” Earth agreed again. “Your soothing voice is perfect for backup vocals. Plus, you can be quiet or loud. You blend in great with everything. You make everything sound great when you’re in the background.”

“That’s very nice of you, Earth, but must I always be in the background? It seems that nobody takes me seriously.”

“Trust me, Water, we all take you seriously. You’re powerful and amazing,” Air whispered.

Water sighed. “But I’m always in the background.”

“Hey! What are we gonna call our band?” Fire interrupted.

“Wait a minute. Shouldn’t we figure out what type of music we’re gonna play first?” Water asked.

“That’s easy. Rock and Roll,” Earth teased.

“With horns?” Air asked.

“Maybe we should just figure out our name,” Water sighed. “I think we should think of the name of our band. I would rather argue about that than about what music we’ll play.”

“How about Earth and the Elementals.”

“Or The Fire Singers.”

“How about W. A. F. E. Or just WAFE,” Water suggested.

“Waif? An abandoned or desolate child?” Air was indignant.

“No. An acronym. W for Water. A for Air. F for Fire. E for Earth. WAFE,” Water explained.

“I’ve got it!” Fire roared. “Earth, Wind, and FIre.”

“I like it,” Earth agreed.

“Me too,” said Air.

“It’s settled then. Even though it sounds familiar,” Fire declared. “You don’t mind that it sounds great without you in the name, do you, Water?”

“Of course, she doesn’t, do you?” Earth rumbled.

“Well, changing my name to Wind is a stroke of genius,” Air added. “So Water shouldn’t mind too much, do you dearie?”

Earth, Air, and Fire jabbered on and on about the new band that the four of them were about to start. They were so excited and they thought their friend was excited too. They talked on and on.

Water barely made a sound when she said, “I’m glad you three are so excited, but the humans already have a band with that name. And not that anybody cares, but it was my idea to make the band in the first place.” Water cried a little, but her three friends did not notice.
