Till Death Do Us Part
White Wall-Rosenberg graveyard was located on the corner hill of Silent Drive and White Wall Street. The graveyard was oddly large to be in the middle of two streets. The hill was round and solid, the field was flat and went for at least six acres. I had admired the graves growing up, so much I made a career out of it.
I became a grave digger, and a maintenance man for the graveyard. It was a career I would come to regret. I had to bury children, some newborns, some brutally injured in car wrecks, and others beaten to death. I had to bury those who died of heart failures, cancers, and other natural causes. And those who were mangled, murdered, or harmed in ways that couldn’t be fixed no matter how hard the mortuary makeup artists tried to fix them.
One particular evening, I happened to be the grave digger of my long time best friend, his name was odd,Graven Whitewall. The street in which the graveyard was placed was named after his family. I grew up playing box cars on that street. It was such a peaceful town. He was the last living Whitewall. He had no siblings, and never wanted children. He lived alone in that same very home, I grew up playing in.
A few nights after the burial, my boss informed me he needed me to stay late, and patrol the graveyard because he couldn’t stay over that night. I agreed, and started driving around in the golf cart as I usually would, I saw my boss walk into the office, then he left quicker than usual. Little did I know my boss knew a storm was coming, and had cut the brakes on the golf cart.
The storm came and it got dark fast, I went from being able to see, to not knowing where I was, on an area I could drive with my eyes closed. I barley saw it but before I could even stop, I crashed straight into that big hill and was dead on impact. I looked down and there I saw my body, limp, cold, lifeless, and wet leaned over on a crashed golf cart.
I had been slung threw the windshield, head first and hit the only rock protruding from the hill. My best friend, patted my shoulder and I looked up and there I saw Graven. I was shocked. I looked down and saw I was a spirit floating above. It hit me I was dead. Before I could say anything. I heard “ I tried to warn you, the boss cut those brakes, I couldn’t stop you fast enough.” I looked at him and then he said “ I know you’re not happy, you just died, but I think you need to see something.”
He grabbed my hand and we whooshed infront of my bedroom window, there I saw something I never could’ve imagined. My boss and my wife, in my bed. Making love on my spot. My boss was wearing my robe. I was in rage. I was furious. I tried to break the window, but being a spirit, I couldn’t break it, I just went straight through. I saw my gun, the one I always leave next to the bed stand incase an intruder came in.
I felt the rage come over me, and managed to grab the gun. I looked over to see Graven, but he was no where in sight, that’s when I heard the gunshot, and realized my anger had pulled the trigger. I looked and saw I had shot my wife directly in the heart. My boss was terrified he was looking dead at me, I wondered if he saw me. I didn’t care. I yelled “ till death do us part!” And I vanished the gun dropped right at his feet.
