WRITING OBSTACLE

Submitted by Maranda Quinn

Show a powerful emotion – love, grief, rage - in a quiet, everyday moment.

Instead of writing a dramatic and drawn out scene, think about how subtle actions and sensory details can carry the weight of the feeling.

Baby Steps

A big group hangs together for lunch outside of the common area. The sun hitting each of their skin as it slowly burns them.

Two past lovers, one patiently waiting for the other to come back, while the other…

No one knows what the other one is thinking.

They each sit away from each other, not knowing how to speak normally again, not bothering to try to stay friends. Even though one can’t lose the other more than they have.

“It’s better this way”

Each day pass painfully slow for one soul, while the other… Passes as if everything never happened?

No one knows what the other one is thinking.

Pretending to move on, no dent was seen from the other.

This is useless.

More days pass, no contact. Sun blazing their iris’. Somehow they make eye contact. Everything felt the same again.

Moments pass, now they’re sitting next to each other; Though, ignoring eachother. A step of their revival commences
