A Bloody Goodbye

“Kill the trader and you can be free,” said miss. Lee

“No catch?” I asked

“No catch.” She reassured me

I walked out of the room, a sinking weight in my stomach. either I kill him, or I stay a slave forever.

I have experience in tracking, so it wasn’t hard to find him.

He was in a hotel in the middle of town. It was easy to break-in, I went to the balcony and picked the door lock.

It was a small room. It had dim yellow lighting, the brown wallpaper was peeling and the wooden floor had a bunch of watermarks on it, the roof clearly leaked what it rains. On the left of the balcony was a double bed, on the opposite wall was the door and a Vanity table. He was sitting in a worn wooden chair at the table. As if he sensed I was there he said

“Rather cruel of her to make you of all people come isn’t it.”

“Not at all” I responded, “in fact, this is a wonderful opportunity.”

“She’s offered you freedom, hasn’t she?” he asked turning around to face me, he had a dagger in his hand.

“Maybe” I responded, my hand approaching the dagger holder on my hip (I have about sixteen knives on me at all times, hidden in various places all over my body)

“Noga, you don’t want to do this,” he said

“Enzo,” I said, my heart rate increasing “I don’t have a choice. We both know I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t have to.”

“Noga, I know your technique, we trained together, and we both know you can’t beat me.”

“Let’s find out,” I said,

“Noga,” he said, standing up “please listen to me, I know what it’s like to kill a friend. Trust me, it doesn’t end well. You’ll hate yourself”

I was shaking slightly, my hand on my hip, ready for an attack.

“Enzo I have to get out, I can’t stay there anymore. And you left me, you didn’t even tell me you were leaving”

“Look,” he said approaching me “I’m sorry, I should have told you. But you can’t come with me, this is something I must do myself”

“What are you doing, where are you going?” I asked

“All you need to know is that I’ll be back,” he said,

“So what, you just expect me to sit and wait for you to come back?”

“I expect to be strong like you always have”

I was shaking my head, backing away “I can’t wait any longer” I said, and I pounced, poling the dagger out and coming down on him, quickly he sidestepped. My dagger went straight into the table, instead of struggling to get it out, grabbed a dagger from my lower thigh. I turned to face him and strike again and gasped. He was standing there his dagger in his stomach, he fell to the ground. I ran to catch him.

Panicking I opened his shirt, he was bleeding, a lot. I ran to the vanity opening the drawers anxiously, looking for bandages or a needle. But there was nothing. He was trying to talk, so I went back to him putting his head in my lap. Tears falling down my face,

“I…..couldn’t……be the one……to…break you,” he said in between painful gasp’s

“No, no no no no, Enzo, Enzo look at me. Please don’t leave me,” I said caressing his head “I’m so sorry,”

“Don’t…..don’t worry about it.” He said, trying to make me feel better. “Now……you can be…free” He took a deep breath,

“I’m sorry,” I said “I’ll never forget you”

“Take time…….to….figure out…..who….you…are….Goodbye” he whispered

“Goodbye” as I said it I felt as if I was dying too.

I took the dagger out of his stomach, I left bringing his body to Miss. Lee. I was free. His dagger is mine now, little did I know that the dagger would take many more lives. That I would take many more lives
