Tough Guy

His masculinity

Was rough and jagged

Strong but stern

As the mountains that watched

Over the land

But never moved

Only withstand

What deeply perturbed

The back of his mind

Deep in his soul

Cracked and worn

Like the sidewalks he knew

But never spoke up

As he walked alone

Through the days

Of dark and cold

Or hot and pervasive

The world unknown

What had he seen

What did he know

Nothing but pain

Like the back of his hand

As he walked where he knew

Something was wrong

A pain from the past

That lingered him still

A ravenous beast

That had to be killed

With hungry eyes

Like the devil he knew

The devil inside

That followed his soul

Wherever he went

To never let go
