The Surprise

“Tonight is the night. I’m ready.” I said to myself I stood in the corner of the living room waiting, my heart pounding in my chest as I waited for him to walk through the door.

For years we’d been together. Years of laughs and tears, good times and bad, and none of those times he knew about my ability. Despite our few differences, I never used it to spy on him. He would’ve never seen or noticed if I had though, i would have leaned against the wall, my body transparent against everything else. Tonight however, was the night he’d finally tell him and show him.

As I thought about how me might react, my phone buzzed softly in my pocket. Luckily, along with invisibility, any sounds I give off is silenced, so the phone buzzed against nothing. I checked the message and smiled.

“Are you there yet? I’m running a little late.” He had sent.

Typical Richard.

I grinned and typed back quickly.

“Not yet, I’m still stuck at work. I’ll be another hour or two maybe. Sorry sweetheart.” I replied quickly.

“No worries take your time. I love you.” He typed back after a brief moment, and I blushed deeply as I read it.

Quickly I responded in kind and slipped my phone back into my pocket just as the front door opened.

“The moment you’ve been waiting for, my humble abode.” I hear Richard say loudly and he raised his arms. He walked in, and behind him was another woman who giggled at his antics.

“What the hell?” I thought to myself as I watched in silence.

Richard closed the door and turned back to the mystery woman, wrapping his arms around her waist and began kissing her lips with a slow, sensual intensity.

“Wait wait wait, won’t she be home soon?” The woman said as she pushed him back slightly. Richard chuckled and shook his head.

“Nope, we’ve got just enough time.” He teased playfully as his hands went around her waist and down to her butt.

I stared in disbelief. There’s no way this is happening. My mind raced, wondering how many other times this had happened. Slowly, my hurt turned to anger.

Quickly I pulled out my phone and sent a messages.

“I’m done.” I typed out and sent.

I slid my phone back in my pocket and watched and waited. His phone buzzed and he peeked at it, then tossed it to the side without interest.

“Are you fucking kidding me?” I screamed angrily, causing them both to jump.

“What the-Hailey? Where are you?” Richard asked loudly, looking frantically around the room. Slowly, both of their faces turned from confusion to pure terror as my body slowly became visible from feet to head and he saw me, arms crossed and mascara streaks down my cheeks.

“How the...listen. I can explain-,” He started to say, but I turned to go out of the front door.

“I’ll be back for my stuff.”
