Her Own Enemy

And feedback would be great! Or just any comments, looking to improve my skills.

I hold my envious gaze at the person I wish I could be. My greatest inspiration, my greatest competiton. But I will never be her. She will never be me.

“She’s not who she says she is,” a small woman appears behind me. Her words hitting me like a slap in the face. _How could someone so perfect be nothing but? _I refused to believe the woman. __

__

_“What?” _I’m_ _confused_, _unsure of what to think. I blink at the small woman hoping for an awaited explanation.

“Reach for the stars,’ they said. So she did. She climbed every mountain, tamed every dragon, sailed every ocean, but it wasn’t enough. _She_ was _never_ enough. They were nowhere to be found. She was placed in the shadows by nobody but herself. _Her world.” _The woman’s words are confusing, but paint a clear picture to me.

“Her world once told her to take pride in herself, but now brought her down with every step. Every pathway led to a dead end, every experience led to a downfall. Her leaps became no more than a step, her strides became no more than a lounge. The world was cruel.” The woman explains to me, as we both watch the girl perfectly stride and smile.

“Find the light in the darkness,’ they said, not realizing that sometimes there was no light for her to find. Their words came beating down like rain, drowning her in her own world, her own anxiety.” She goes on.

“You’re good enough,’ they prodded and poked, but every turn led her the wrong way, in every hole she sank deeper. Their words did nothing but ruin her.” And at the end of this, I finally understood.

She wasn’t who she said she was. She was just the same as all of us. Burdened by life’s obstacles, trapped in the endless cycle of merely _living_. Trapped by nobody but herself, her _anxiety_.
