Hidden Tunnel

„What is it?“, Kayla asked a tid bit scared. „It looks like an old tunnel entrance with some sort of water disposal or canal. Not sure though. Haven‘t seen anything like it.“, I said and curiously walked to the entrance. „Alex, wait, this could be dangerous!“, Tim said protectively and hurried to stay by my side. We stopped right in the entryway and I looked into the darkness. Nothing. No light. No sound coming out of there. Besides the little flowing water in the canal next to our feet, which was so shallow that I was surprised to even hear it. I had some birds chirping in the forest and Tims‘ breathing next to me. „We will take a look, right?“ I didn‘t hide my excitement and was already taking my backpack of my shoulders to search for my flashlight. „Are you sure?“ Kayla chimed in. „It looks so scary!“. „Come on, Kayla. It‘s most likely going to be a dead end. You know they usually close them off.“ And without waiting anymore I turned on my flashlight and started walking into the darkness. I heard both of them following me, not without Kayla muttering a „I really don‘t like this.“ I tried to suppress a grin. ‚She is going to hate this!‘ It was a basic tunnel, nothing but plain stone walls, no alcoves or crossings. Some moss and other plants, that apparently didn‘t mind the darkness, were growing on the wet walls. Some spiders and other little critters were around. But it of course there wasn‘t anything else. No mystic creatures or secret smuggler dens. Not that Kayla and Tim knew, but I‘ve found this a week ago and have already seen everything that is to it. I saw the opening before they did and my adrenaline spiked a bit. Just a bit more. „There is something!“ I let them know. „OMG, what the hell is that?!“ „What, what do you see?“, Tim asked tense. I walked into the small room ahead and let them walk out of the narrow tunnel behind us. And before they could properly grasp what they were seeing in the small light cone of my flashlight, I screamed. And with that Tim violently flinched next to me, while Kayla started screaming at the top of her lungs. She was still screaming while I was already in a laughing fit. I had to hold my stomach with one hand, while the flashlight in my right hand was shakingly showing Kayla shocked face. I looked at Tim, who obviously also almost shit his pants but was now nodding his head with respect while laughing aswell and admitting, „Okay, you got us good, you little piece of shit!“. Kayla finally could mutter, „Sometimes I hate you!“. I was still laughing. „Now we‘re even for you throwing me into that cold lake. And I love you too!“
