Out Of Darkness
I felt as if my body was falling, or perhaps floating. The only thing I saw was darkness, which seemed to expand into an infinite space, and envelope me tightly. ‘How did I get here?’ I wondered.
My mind’s eye flashed to me laying in a pool of my own blood, gasping for air. I did not know which three things were colder: the kitchen floor, my skin, or the knife that was sticking out of my chest.
“I’m dying,” I told myself. “Fuck.”
The intruder was some junkie that didn’t even bother covering up his face. Looking for some valuable items to pawn for cash. If I make it out of this alive, I’m definitely moving out of that neighborhood.
I could feel heat on my back. I peaked over my shoulder, seeing flames and smoke.
“Hell?” I chuckle. “I should have went to church more often.” I make a vow to myself if I ever wake up, I’m going every day. A bright light appears above me suddenly, smothering out the flames. I begin to float towards the light.
Out of darkness. Into the light.
