POEM STARTER

Woodlands

Write a poem set in a forest.

Seeking Serenity

Peace.

Serenity.

That’s what people actively seek out these days. Everybody is fighting against the stream of conscious chaos.

So they seek it.

Peace.

Serenity.

And into the forest we go.

Leaves rustling, soft winds whistling,

Vines twisting, branches touching,

Birds chirping, insects bustling,

Plants bending, feathers shuffling,

And a babbling brook interrupting the clearest thoughts, refusing to stray from their busy day, of winding, flowing, chatting, swelling, falling; just working its way to its final destination.

But, wait.

What about the citizens of the forest?

Where do they seek their peace?

Their serenity?

They are constantly interrupted by us crashing through their domain and not once do we stop and think about how they can escape us.

Trees are bound by their roots, firmly put in their place.

They are seen, but not heard.

Perhaps, given half the chance, they would scream at us to leave their happy place.

Get out.

Leave them be.

The forest is not home to you and me.

Get out and leave their sanctuary.
