I remember when I played dress up

The frilly dresses and the plastic tiaras

There were no worries in the world

I remember when I used a hairbrush as a microphone

Singing my heart out to Disney tunes

I remember when I could do my hair in pigtails

Pigtails were my favorite

I remember when I took off the tiara

I wasn’t a real princess

I remember when I turned off the Disney tunes

I began to listen to pop songs

I remember when I took the pigtails out of my hair

I was too old for pigtails

I remember when I learned my first cuss word

I swore to never say it

I remember when school was no longer fun

I didn’t want to be there anymore

I remember when I got my first phone

I could finally follow trends now

I don’t remember when I lost my self love

It seemed to just disappear

I don’t remember when I stopped liking hugs

It wasn’t comfort anymore
