I Betrayed Him
My door swung open as a very angry and upset Kyle stormed into my room. My guards went to step forward and I put my hands up to stop them. Kyle made his way straight towards me. His knuckles were bloody, his tie was gone, his suit jacket wasn’t buttoned, and his hair was all over the place. He was having a meltdown. A very understandable meltdown. “You did this!” He shouted at me, slamming his hands on my desk. “YOU STOLE EVERYTHING FROM ME!”
I sighed, sitting back in my chair. “Kyle, don’t shout. You’re make a scene.”
“I’m sorry being conned into losing everything doesn’t bring out the best in me!”
I sighed, standing up from what used to be his desk and stood in front of Kyle. “I did what I had to do. I have job just like you. It’s not my fault that the higher ups didn’t think you could do your job anymore.”
Kyle stared at me for a moment before putting his hands on my cheeks, looking into my eyes with his glassy brown eyes. It wasn’t his business or his money that is destroying him. It’s me. He loved me and I betrayed him. “I don’t understand. You said you loved me! How could you do this to me?”
I reached up, putting my hand over his to get them off my cheeks. “Sweetie,” I put one hand on one of his cheek, watching him close him eyes to my touch. “I didn’t do anything to you. It’s not my fault you weren’t smart enough to know you were being played.” I removed my hand and walked back over to my desk to sit back down. “I have work to do.”
Kyle just stared at me in utter shock and disbelief. It was clear I broke his heart, but he would never know it broke my heart too. Kyle turned around to walk back towards the door before stopping to look at me once more. “Did you ever mean it?”
I held my breath. “Once, yes. But only once.” With that he walked out of my office with no money, no business, and a broken heart. It makes me wonder if having a broken heart is better than having no heart.
