She was siting waiting for someone to tell her what was going on, if he was going to live or not. She didn't know what to do or think so many things were running threw her head but she couldn’t grab onto a single thought.
“For Mathew Davis" Natalie heard a voice say.
“That's me" said Natalie standing up and walking towards the man that had spoken, later when you asked her what happened that day she could never quite give you an answer, all she says is “we didn’t make it”.
Natalie was sitting at her desk papers that she can barely bring herself to look at everywhere, she turned to look at the hospital bills grabbing her check book. Just one a day she thought to herself, she grabbed a bill at random checked the price and cringed. She wrote the check, stuffed it in a envelope, sealed, and addressed it; looking down at the envelope she sighed now grabbing some of her work. The ancient scroll on her desk was the easiest things for her to figure out, she starts working to translate it when her phone rings. She looked over at the caller id and sighed even louder.
“Yes” Natalie snapped at the phone.
“Hi, this is” the man in the other end started.
Natalie cut him off, already pissed that he was calling “yes I know who this is Derek, what the fuck do you want.”
“Now is that any way to talk to your boss Nat” Derek asked.
Natalie rolled her eyes, “I’m so over you I thought I quit already, and don’t call me that” she said, looking over at the papers she had just been working on knowing that was the reason for his call. “I’m not giving them back, this was his work not the museums he found out it on his own time and shared it with you his friend not the museum, you betrayed him”
“Now don’t be so dramatic” he said, Natalie scoffed “I just want to help that scroll is in hieroglyphs, you really think you’ll be able to translate it and figure out what the hell that thing is with out the museum’s resources, MY resources.”
Natalie was so over his bullshit, constantly calling sense Mathew, she barely got out of the funeral before he was bombarding her with questions about what Mathew found. “Yeah I do” was all she said back before hanging up.
This was her fathers discovery she didn’t need some money hungry asshole taking that away from him, from her.
