She Needs Me
Mia and Winnifred are inseparable. They just get each other. From to moment they met they just clicked. Mia loves that Winnifred doesn’t judge her. She accepts her for who and what she is. Winnifred can sit with Mia in a companionable silence that Mia has never experienced before. The fact that Winnifred is a dog doesn’t change anything for Mia.
Winnifred wakes up every morning right before the first golden rays of the sun peak over the horizon. She has a routine. We wakes up, sniffs Mia to make sure that she is ok, and then gently jumps out of the beg. She tries to make as little noise as possible. This is easy because Winnifred is smaller than an average house cat. He fur is a caramel brown brown and it seems to float for a moment as Winnifred drops down from the bed.
Next, she gives herself a quick bath. She pays special attention to her front paws, licking and making sure that her nails as a just-right-length.
Once that is done to Winnifred’s satisfaction, she delicately makes her way to the kitchen for breakfast. Her automated food bowl ensures that her food is there waiting for her.
A creaking sound and two gentle thumps tell Winnifred that Mia is awake.
“Winnie!” Mia softly calls from the bedroom.
Winnifred snorts with distaste.
“My name is Winnifriend, not Winnie.” She thinks to herself as she demurely eats her last bit of food. She takes a quick lap of water from her bowl before turning back toward the bed room.
She prances, almost as if she were floating, as she goes back to her best friend. Mia needs her and it was Winnifred’s job to be there when she was needed.
