Burn Forever
We met in the midst of chaos,
Two souls, beautiful but broken,
Teetering on the edge of sanity,
Walking the fine line of life and death.
You were a mirror then,
reflecting the parts of me
I thought the cruelty of this world
Had buried long ago.
We touched, we ignited
Glowing flames of beauty and promise.
Two fires merging,
Ablaze much too hot,
too wild to hold.
And the outside world,
Sank it’s jagged teeth so deep
Into all we had that was beautiful.
The devil wore a smile,
And held a baggie in his hand.
He left us desperate, empty-handed,
With nothing but our open wounds.
Strangers with familiar faces,
Still bleeding, and blaming one another.
Every word was sharp,
But the silence was sharper.
We pressed our weight against the cracks,
Of our foundation, until they widened.
And everything we build slipped through.
Our love became a Warzone –
A battlefield of love and hate.
Our words, the flying bullets.
Dark brown powder and crystal shards,
Were the shrapnel…
Now,
we are miles apart,
yet tethered to the same dark thread.
We dream of starting over,
of pulling our hearts from the wreckage,
brushing off the ash
and trying again.
I still believe in us.
Not as we were,
but as we could be—
clean,
whole,
unbroken.
Somewhere beneath this ruin,
there’s a spark waiting to catch.
And if we are brave enough,
We can dance in the flames of beauty,
And burn forever.
