“No!” screamed Jack. He lay there, beaten by the Zod, unable to use his powers because of her. Christine was gripping his hand, her eyes wild with fear. She was the fiercest person he knew, but today he felt like he had to protect her.
Christine and Jack were walking towards the courthouse, where they were supposed to present a case. They had worked for weeks to gather evidence and prepare a strong case against the Stinger, a serial killer who had killed four people so far. His last victim—he killed him with a mix of five different drugs in a cocktail and left his signature: a sting blade. But he made a mistake. He bled. It was just a drop, but enough to identify the man behind the mask. Jack thought this was too easy. He knew Stinger was not some amateur who wouldn’t notice he was bleeding and leave evidence. But the evidence was just too strong, and he confessed.
Today, they were supposed to head to the trial when suddenly they heard a crashing sound, and a beam fired from above, vaporizing the person in front of them. His instinct took over, and he grabbed Christine, hiding behind the ice cream cart by the road.
“Jettison! I know you are hiding here. AND I KNOW WHO YOU ARE! HA-HA-HA!”
He froze at these words and looked at Christine. He had to keep her safe. Before he could figure out what was happening, a robo-arm came out of nowhere, hit him across the face, and grabbed Christine by the waist.
He screamed, “No!”
All his fears came rushing back. He never got the chance to tell her who he was, what he really felt about her… that he loved her.
He had to save her. He got to his feet, zoomed across the space, hit the robot hard on the head, and freed Christine.
Zod laughed and punched Jack.
“There you are! Jettison the mighty—a mere nobody!”
Christine looked confused, as if she was in a dream—a very ridiculous dream. How could Jack be Jettison? Jack, whom she loved. Jack, who was so gentle, who wouldn’t even hurt a spider. She met Jack’s eyes and knew it was true.
Jack Spencer was Jettison. Saviour of Metro Square.
