My City On Fire

What was once a peaceful place,

A city full of grace,

Is lost forever more,

All because of this war.

Darkness descended like the final curtain,

Bombs were dropped like halloween candy,

It was too late,

For us to escape,

Sent underground like rats with a plague.

It’s been 23 days,

Since my city was set on fire,

23 days,

Since I saw my mother,

23 days,

Since I had a life.

Trapped in the darkness,

Hiding from their open fire,

Smoke rises from all the places I once knew,

The school,

The library,

The memorials of our fallen.

Our City burns to the ground,

Rubble piles are all that remain,

Burnt out buildings,

Lost lives,

Does anyone else even know we are here?

Dust and Smoke,

Get caught in my throat,

Finding water is hard,

The heat has dehydrated us all,

Rain would be a gift from the skies,

I want to scream,

But no sound comes out.

I think I’m dead,

My City is On Fire,

Is anyone left?

Or have we been left behind instead.
