POEM STARTER
Heavy rain, cracked windows, and a forgotten song.
Use these descriptors as inspiration for a poem.
Broken Records
I sit by myself in my room
Staring out the windows as I await my doom
There’s a song that plays in reverse
But I alone know each and every verse
It’s sad what the rain says to me
As the song plays its melody
It begs me to listen, to open my heart
But for many years, it hasn’t a start
Drops of rain spill in from a window crack
Hoping to warn my and bring me back
But long since the days of my old self
And that stupid record remains on the shelf
I try to remember the words it said
Or how it was supposed to be read
But since it only play in reverse
Only I have known its verse
I could try and play it again
But I know that words that will be said
It will play and play badly
And I will sit by this window sadly
The rain begs me to play it in my heart
But, alas, I feel only bitter and tart
My world hasn’t known that song for some time
And if I play it now, it might break my mind
So I sit by this window and listen to the rain
As the droplets fall down again and again
And I mourn the song that plays in reverse
And how I only know its once loved verse
