The Crush

‘You’d have to be an absolute fool to believe that!’ I thought to myself as I tried to not roll my eyes. I stood with my best friend next to his locker waiting to see what the blonde psychopath in front of us would do next. The most popular girl in school, Rebecca, was currently batting her eyes at him and trying to convince both of us of her secret crush on him. I knew it was a set up. But I knew Harry tended to only see the good, rather then the blatant trap this was.

As Rebecca stepped into Harry’s personal space pushing out her generous chest. I couldn’t hold back any more! “You can’t really think we believe your sweet act, can you?” I asked her with clenched teeth. Harry was always the nice one, me not so much. I was the painfully blunt one.

Rebecca whipped her icy blue eyes to me and I could almost see the budding sadist beneath. She enjoyed the pain she caused others. And she had her crosshairs targeted on my blonde haired green eyed best friend.

I narrowed my brown eyes right back at her, challenging her with the tension of my body. Granted, I don’t think Rebecca was all that threatened by my skinny frame. But I had height to my advantage and used my almost six feet to loom over her 5’5 frame.

I knew Harry could never feel for me the way I did for him. But that didn’t mean I wouldn’t protect him from people like this. I would not allow someone to take advantage of his kind heart and gentle nature.

Staring down at her, I let the protector inside me shine thru. Widening her heavily painted eyes Rebecca took a step back. I smiled at her with just a touch of teeth showing.

Straightening her spine she tried to shake off the feeling that she had just went from predator to prey. “Your lose” she tried to casually say. Her voice held a bit to much fear to be plausible.

Walking away she swayed her hips, causing her tight red skirt to shift up her legs. Maybe she was hoping the extra show would encourage Harry to accept her story. His eyes did follow her behind as it disappeared down the short hallway we were in on the west campus. To his credit though he didn’t follow through. Turning to look at me, his green eyes bore into me. “You do know I didn’t actually believe her, right?” He asked me. Shrugging my shoulders noncommittally I turned to leave.

Reaching out, Harry grabbed my hand quickly before I could get away. Stopping and looking down at our clasped hands my breath stopped. Tipping my face up with a finger Harry just looked at me for a moment, then said softly “Thank you Roe.” Slowly pulling his hand from mine he turned and walked away.
