STORY STARTER
Write about an important event in your life from the perspective of someone close to you.
Really try to think about how and why someone else would relate to this event, don't just write about your own experience. It could be a fictional event if preferred.
Where does he live?
"he WHAT?" I blurt out, nails digging into the bed sheets. My other half looks away, biting her green polished nails. I’m sure I’ve never felt this level of hate and violence before, and I suddenly understand why people commit murder. I breathe deeply as I attempt to calm down, but my tight jaw and wide enraged eyes betray my internal conflict.
A man, or rather I say monster, had the audacity to lay a finger on my angel. Even so, lay a finger on anyone. I gently take her chin, her numb-looking eyes that were once so full of life, now facing me. Memories start flooding my mind, how she’d light up my day like the sun, her soft smile and glowing eyes filling me with a warm feeling as her tender lips press onto mine. Now, a strange darkness surrounds her, her forced smile and dull eyes fill me with worry as her pale lips press desperately onto mine, trying to distract me. After a moment, I pull out of the kiss.
"Where does he live, darling?" I ask, softly smiling as I start planning the lesson I’ll be teaching him. My legs twitch impatiently.
"You’re not…going to do anything, no," she says with a shaky voice, anxiously scratching the dry rash on her arm. I never noticed that rash. I never noticed the dark circles under her eyes.
She despises violence and I should be a comforting presence to her. I know she needs me more than ever right now. I open my arms, she snuggles in. I hesitantly caress her soft cheek and massage her brown hair. My heartbeat slows down, the calming effect of her presence settling in.
Even so, the defeat weighs on my chest. Weak. What kind of man am I, if I can’t protect my love?
"Darling, I’m so sorry…" I whisper, she starts crying. Her painful cries hit like a brick to my heart. The wetness on my shirt doesn’t bother me as I cover her forehead with kisses.
"I’m here, you’re safe… I’ll never let anyone touch you again, love.." I say, a promise I intend to keep. She falls asleep in my arms, mascara smearing against my skin. I can’t shake the darkness filling my mind again. I reach for her phone, my eyes hardening as I find his address. This is not over.
