Burning The Future
As I looked into your eyes, I saw my future go up in flames. A perfect future that I had planned since I was a little girl, all gone in an instant as I peered deep into your beautiful brown eyes. Instead of a perfect, cliché life for me, I instead saw a life full of adventure and sincerity. I pictured us on long road trips across the country, making messes in the kitchen, dancing in the rain. That was the future I wanted, not getting married in an all too perfect church with someone I don’t even want to marry, not staying home alone all day waiting for my husband to come back from his boring job.
So yes, when I looked at you and at your irresistible eyes full of energy and life, I did see my future burn. But it needed to burn. I grabbed your hand and we started running. I didn’t know where we were going, but as long as it was far away from that burning heap of a future.
