POEM STARTER
submitted by The Teen Writer
Write an elegy centered around the following words:
Hope
Darkness
Rose
An elegy is a poem that reflects upon death or mourning. They commonly have themes of sorrow and loss, but also explore redemption and consolation.
It Started With A Seed
It started with a seed
A little seed you gave to me
It was so small, so round in my hand
I could have never expected it to end
We planted it together
You and I
We watched it grow
And we planted more in rows
You smiled
And I didn’t
Your hands were full of hope
While, the darkness in me, I tried to cope
We sat together
You and I
Upon the swingset you built me
Where we could hold hands and watch the bees
The seeds began to grown
They began to cluster, to ravage the land
I was scared at first, but you were not
You were to live forever, I thought
But now the rose bush is plentiful
And I sit alone
The thorns prick my fingers
And the bees brandish their stingers
Nothing’s the same without you
All the hope that was wary of me
Has finally left me alone
And now I’m staring, holding hands with your bones
I smile
You don’t
The roses were full of hopelessness
The bees fly in darkness
