New Life
It laid in a puddle of flesh and fluid. Whines and gurgles escaped the animal’s snout as it struggled to activate its new faculties. It cried out a mixture of curious and horrified moans, a primal brain humming to life. It’s wet fur dried quickly, the amniotic fluid sticking in the places where fat folds of skin made contact and peeled apart as the creature crawled, almost swimming away from the natal wash. Eyes, blue like the dawn, flickered open and shut again. The newborn wolf was not ready to see this world, but soon it would roam and rule it’s domain.
