POEM STARTER
Using twelve stanzas, write a poem about each month of the year.
Echoes of Now
12 months past reflecting the moments that pass,
The good times seem short and the hard times always seem to last,
The world at large with infinite resolutions,
All fade to nought in the cracks of illusions,
As the winters cold fierce winds freeze,
It chills us to our bones as lost souls sleep,
Caught in new years fruitful dreams as they begin to die,
Under the weight of January’s unforgiving skies!
In February’s embrace love does take hold,
In the heart of the young and the souls of the old,
The shortest month with promises of love in the air,
The timid heart grows as it slowly disappears,
Words are said in the heat of the moment,
Yet most fate’s are denied when love remains unspoken,
Like a thief in the night or hopes are taken,
At the end of the day our aspirations are forsaken!
March marches on as spring start to come alive,
With changes in the air, in the month that often lies,
We watch the seasons change with hopes held high,
From cold comes warmth, a never ending lie,
As flowers start to bloom then hang their heads and sigh,
They grow tall and dance then wither before our eyes,
As plans are readily made but turn to dust as they start to die!
April keeps its promises as flowers put their beauty on display,
A rainbow of nature that brightens our days,
In gentle winds they bend and they sway,
In the elegance of their grace they show us the way,
Whispers of secrets blow through the trees,
Banishing nightmares and reawakening dreams,
Held together tightly by the stitches in our seams,
Bringing forth new visions that are rarely what they seem!
The world comes to life as the air starts to warm,
As the frigid cold leaves us broken and worn,
Yet the month of May brings laughter and light,
As our spirits start to shine and our souls **come to life**
In the cool of the night as we gaze upon the moon,
Seeds of love in our hearts stir and begin to bloom,
Sprouting into gardens filled with roses and thorns,
For both are needed to live fully from the moment that we’re born!
Junes comes next first warm then hot,
As sweat falls like rain when the heat becomes a drought,
With the warm air blowing perfectly through the trees,
Listen and feel its calming effect as it puts you at ease,
The heat can weigh down on hearts and minds,
With practice and patience we can still be kind,
We can react with anger or respond with a heart that’s sound,
Within the changing of the seasons hides deepest wisdom profound!
July comes fast exploding rainbows at night,
A time of laughter, love and celebration in the moments that feel right,
We all stand tall sharing The American Dream,
Yet carefully we must tread for things aren’t usually as they seem to be,
The sounds can be deafening drowning the silence of our thoughts,
Sometimes that may be good other times maybe not,
In the knowledge of both we can awaken the calm,
For the darkest of nights bring forth a new dawn!
In the height of summer it’s time to appreciate,
The wonders of life and nature we can find a way to relate,
In memories that haunt and futures that can flourish,
In the arms of August’s embrace we hold true to its promise,
This moment right now is what it is,
The end of a beginning or the beginning of the end?
We can make it our foe or become its best friend!
In September’s embrace we watch as the world starts to fade,
The colors of love that start to decay,
Leaves start to rain down in beautiful display,
The sounds of crunching and rusting as the season continue of change,
As the world’s allure begins to transform and fade,
The fire in our souls may flicker but will always stay aflame,
The change in the air can dim our own light,
Yet everything remains perfect as we continue to shine!
As colorful Autumn leaves whisper secrets in the night,
October dancers elegantly beneath the twilight,
In the beauty on Mother Nature’s skies of grey,
Like snakes it teaches us to shred our skins and remember to play,
In the laughter of children, in the grace of letting go,
We find peace, love and happiness as the little ones continue to grow,
Though the days grow shorter and shadows start to loom,
We realize that everything is a miracle beneath the moon!
As November leaves still fall the world prepares to rest,
We to go through changes but remain eternally blessed,
A time to reflect on the years past,
We gather acorns of hope that we try to make last,
As the world starts to freeze its a time of rebirth,
In the turning of two moons awaits the dawn of a new earth,
Nurture the acorns in dreams of gratitude,
As we continue to chase the future’s we pursue!
December at last the cold night grow long with lights shining bright,
In the spirit of cheer and the ones that we hold dear,
Dance in our hearts with cheerful delight,
A time of connection to reflect on our fears,
In our souls we converse and start to take flight,
As we cultivate patience and compassion everything becomes clear,
As day’s grow colder under the sparkles of winters frozen liquid light,
In the echoes of now we greet the coming year,
For time is fleeting and in the coming of January my resolution is for the world to unite!!
