WRITING OBSTACLE
Write a story about a morally grey character.
A morally grey character is someone who is neither outright good nor completely evil - but they don't have to be boring! Give your character motivations for both their good and bad behaviours.
Revenge
I needed this. For the time has finally come to slay my masters killer.
I stayed in the shadows.
Breath? Shallow.
Knife? In hand.
Down below me was my target. Sipping wine and talking to his guests like it was such a joyous event. To finally be rid of “The Reaper”. Music was swaying to the bodies of the rich and powerful as they would say over and over again
“So glad The Reaper is gone.”
I tightened my grip on my knife.
Yes, that was my masters name. At least to THESE people. To the slums? They have a different name for him:
“The savior”.
For you see, it is thanks to these people I see before me that the people I care for are in the slums to begin with.
High taxes.
Culling of the poor in the night only for the morning to bring the sounds of tears.
They would search the garbage for just a measly scrap of food.
My master saw the injustice that was being done and struck fear into their hearts. With a simple strike.
For a time things were better. But one night my master was called out to the square. I told him not to go, that it was a trap, but he was adamant. “Sometimes you have to spring a trap if it can save others. Take this for me and Jin?” I took his knife, “what?” I asked through choked sobs.
“Don’t follow me.”
You probably guessed what I did. I saw it all come crumbling down. The reaper was gone and the ruthlessness continued once more.
Well after a month of suffering, I finally found his trail which has led me to this point. To finally end this overseer’s life.
I lept and my knife went cleanly into his throat. The light slowly leaving his eyes as I said:
“The Reaper has returned.”
