POEM STARTER

Write a Horatian ode to a fictional character that you admire.

Horatian odes are short lyrical poems that deal with themes of love and friendship. They are written in stanzas of 2 or 4 lines, with a consistent metrical pattern.

Cheesy Love

I couldn’t help feeling dreary

After your decree.

My heart had grown weary

As it yearned for thee.

Oh, but how it had swelled deep in my breast.

It shattered my will to seek and confess.

While I couldn’t help but appreciate in wonder;

I heard that thy heart fell for another

Broke you from slumber,

Ailing in bed, for the depth

Of the thoughts exploding your head.

Betrothing thy crop, thy will, and thy might,

You waited for days

Caged out of spite,

Feeling contrite,

Torture would weigh,

Numbing all thee’s affection displays.
