POEM STARTER

Inspired by Daniel HJ

If Only...

Write a poem which starts or ends with "If only".

If Only

If only... if only

She calls through the trees

The nights would come faster,

The river would freeze,

I’m tired of the days

that linger for years

I’m tired of the sun,

and each time it appears

I run to the mountains,

I run to the north.

I pay the prices,

that nothing is worth.

For i ticket that takes me

Back to the time,

When every prayer,

and answer was mine

But if only, if only

She calls to the moon

Behind roses, and earth

Really did lie a tomb

How nice it would be,

To be honoured for once,

For the fire to die for a moment,

For the ashes to reign for a hour

For the praise, or at least the acknowledgement

That our role has its own sort of power

But she dances with all of the beauty,

And sings with all of the charm,

And falls with the grace and elegance

Of someone that does you no harm

But when all the tears are collected

And all of the dead have been mourned

And the days they slip into darkness

It becomes clear who exactly you scorned

As everything hot turns to burning

And everything cool turns to ice

She turns to singing “if only”

And you turn to keep playing nice
