COMPETITION PROMPT
Write a poem exploring feelings of contentment and satisfaction.
While a large portion of poetry deals with difficult emotions, consider how you can express the opposite side of that.
God
Some people say you meet Jesus
On the other side of the sky
Others say it’s Krishna or Allah
That greet you when you die
I don’t know much of religion
But I know how it feels to be free
To feel the world around you
In perfect harmony
I feel it in the sunshine
I smell it on the grass
I taste it on your smile
And I hear it in your laugh
It warms me when I’m frigid
It lulls me off to nod
That pillow soft fog of peacefulness
Is the closest I’ve found to God
I’d like to think that’s where we go
When all is said and done
A meadow full of roses
Bathing underneath the sun
Maybe it’s a cloudless sky
Or a gentle, lazy stream
Floating between time and space
A never ending dream
I don’t know what death will look like
But when I sit and close my eyes
The cosmos and I hum a harmonious tune
And that’s something that never dies
