Run!
I dodge past trees of various sizes. My feet pounding against the forest floor, as I continue to sprint despite the aching pain. Breathing was harder, my lungs working overtime to keep me going. I dare not stop though. Stopping meant that whatever that thing was currently chasing me would catch me. Each scenario that I can think of is worse than the last, but I can’t stop thinking “what does it want from me?”. I feel exhausted, my adrenaline rush quickly fading away. A small part of my brain whispering to just stop, let go, rest. All of which I try ignore, but the whispering grows louder as my energy deteriorates. “I dare not stop, I can not stop.” I repeat to myself, encouraging me to continue on. To not lose hope that I will get out of this. Crack! A broken tree flies past me, barely able to dodge it. Falling to the ground, I stare up at the creature horrified.
