Words are meaningless

No they’re not

You told her you’d always love her

You told her you’d marry her

You told her you’d never hurt her

And I liked you till I hated what you did

When you left her so you hurt her and no longer loved or planned to marry her

But then I became the girl that was the reason it was believed

I didn’t want to hurt him, so I told him I loved him

I didn’t want to upset him so I told him I’d never leave him

I didn’t want to mistreat him so I told him he was my favourite

All came from my mouth while my heart said otherwise

Words are meaningless

Yes they are

because you believed the lies I told

Though said with good intention

They were never said to last

True at the time or not

Words are unpredictable promises

That aren’t said to last,

No matter how much you hope they would.
