A Land Of Strangers

The buildings were made of trees, and when I say they were made of trees, I mean the trees were actually buildings. They were tall and foreboding standing above me like the tallest skyscrapers in the city.

The buildings had no doors, just moss that fell in front of the doorways to keep nose people out. The windows had no glass, but I knew that they would not need glass here. In this city, there was no extreme weather, or at least that is what people all over the country said. I myself had never been to this city before and found everything to be fascinating.

As I walked down the path, I passed by Elves of every age. They were all beautiful, unlike the humans I passed when I walked the streets of my own town. They were polite, smiling, or waving to me.

As I made it to downtown, I notice the unique culture that the city held. The high elves in their robes stood around watching as the elven woman danced in a circle spinning each other in a circle.

As I approached, one of the girls pulled me into the dance. We spun and laughed. The woman showed me how to hold my hand and when to dip and when to break apart from her. When the dance was over, one of the high elves approached me.

“Hello, madam. May I ask where you are from,” he asked, folding his hands into the sleeves of his robe.

I bowed deeply to the elven man before answering his question.

“I am from the town of Waterfell; my father is the mayor there. I am Valentina,” I said, bowing again to the man. He smiled at me and held out his hand to me.

“Please, Miss Valentina, join us for dinner.”

“Of course,” I said with a smile.

The dinner was incredible. Vegetables, sweet honey, and bread. Not the typical meal of my people who mainly ate meat, but it was delicious none the less.

After the meal, I listened to them talk in their language for what felt like hours. They had such a graceful language compared to our English. It was sweeter than any human language I had ever heard.

I was sad when I saw the moon rising. I knew I had to leave. It was with reluctance that I slipped out of the tree building and on the dirt path. I glanced back one last time, promising myself that someday I would return to the Elven Kingdom.
