Fake Friends

I have never been here before. A long decking above a still lake wasn’t what I imagined when Annie asked me to hang out. Normally I would organise everything, we would always meet at my house or the forest. This was different. I had a funny feeling about this place. It was dark and quiet, I almost didn’t feel safe. Annie said she would me me here at 7:30pm, she’s five minutes late. A wave of stress hits me, I’m starting to get worried.

“Lara!”, I relax after the sweet voice calls my name. I recognised her immediately, short dark brown hair and long legs.

“Annie, I was getting worried!”, I respond.

“I actually have to speak to you”, she replied. My stress returns. Did I say something? Is she moving to another state?

I stand there in silence, I don’t know what to say.

“I’ll give you 10 minutes to say goodbye. Call your mum, dad, whatever”, she said. Her voice changed. The sweet tone I was used too was gone.

“What?”, I didn’t understand.

“The only reason I was ever friends with you was to get closer to Jackson. He never deserved you. You stole everything from me! My friends, my grades, my man, and now it’s time you pay.

What did she mean pay? I feel lightheaded again. Annie and I had been friends for months now, how could she? I clasp my bag and run down the decking.

“You can’t run”, the satisfied look on Annie’s face is was terrifying.

Two black cars pull up in front of me. Guns poke out of the window and I freeze. I turn my head sharply and look back at Annie. I knew she had something to do with them.

“Seven minutes to say goodbye”, she’s enjoying my suffering. My shaky hands reach deep into my bag and pull out my phone.

“And don’t even think about calling the police”, I know she means it.

I call my mum, but don’t even dare to explain the situation. My dad wouldn’t pick up. And last but not least, Jackson, the love of my life.

“Times up”, she starts charging at me. Her strong hands grab me, making it impossible to break free.

We are standing at the edge of the deck, the still water looking up at us. Then I feel it. A powerful force nudges me forward into the deep water. I try to swim but my shoes are weighing me down. I sink down, and shut my eyes.

Definitely not my best writing 😑
