POEM STARTER

Submitted by Olivia Grace

“Sometimes we fall in love with ideas, not people.”

Use this as a line or theme in a poem or short story.

Sonnet

I fell in love with the angel whose wings were black

The mystery of unreachable dreams.

I had thought it would be something I could never get back

If I let it break apart at the seams

So I swore to myself I would find a way

Some miracle would happen, I’d be free

But trouble kept coming and led me astray

So I fought just to reclaim my sanity.

When life was hard, I could still see the angel

Weeping for me, staring blankly ahead

But once I had gone, there was no turning back

The angel, to me, was dead.

I fell in love with the person I thought I couldn’t be

But still, I fell in love with me.

A smooth movement of lyrical rhythm and images…from an angel with black wings to ‘me’. Nicely done! It was great to meet you at the write in! Keep up the good work, and Happy Writing!

Oh my gosh!!! Both the rhyming and the rhythm are slick and perfect!
