The Smoke On My Lips
Light it up.
..Th-thump .. th-thump .. th-thump.
Goes my heartbeat.
Pleasure and pain,
Course through my veins.
The crackling of a deep breath;
The result of aging away.
Each inhale’s a wave
Of information,
Telling me a contradiction
Of words that
lead me to the addiction
Of the pleasure in
The expansion of my brain.
And as they say,
I followed the white rabbit
Which led me to
My sane, present-day.
Each cough an affirmation
That my body’s deterioration
Came from the same
Delight that made me brave.
I, a chimney, ever ablaze.
My body,
denying and craving
A smoke without rejection.
